This would make an excellent terrarium, perhaps with a fairy garden motif. You have a nice wide opening so small fairy-like items could be inserted. But even just plants would be beautiful.

I have never seen a water jug with a wide mouth. I have the glass water jugs that used to be used in water coolers before they switched to plastic. I converted mine to lamps and did not drill holes. You can get lamp parts at a lamp shop or HD, Lowes or a craft shop. I used a lovely triangular shaped shade which enhanced the glass jug. If you want you can fill it with unused toys or legos or sand and shells or rock or even use it as a contained tiny environment with miniature people and houses etc.
I would not cut the jug because they are quite collectable and you may want to use it for something else in the future. As with anything such as this or furniture please investigate it before altering.
I turned 2 bottles upside down, first putting a piece of round decorative wood that was taller than the bottles. I filled bottles with electric Christmas type clear lights, making sure the cord and the pole stuck out. I then turned bottle upside down and buried the neck of the bottles and poles, which were added for stability, in dirt in my yard. The tables turn into fun side tables for the yard. I spaced them so I could put a board over the both of them to form one long table. I also buried the cords to the lights in dirt and plugged the ends into an outside outlet. Very fun and cute at parties!
I think it would look lovely with some large fake peacock feathers, and some bling on the jar. You could switch it up for seasonal and holidays by removing the feathers, and say adding poinsettias at Christmas. It could make your porch or entryway pop!

How about filling it with layers of different colored small rocks and marbles and half way filled place a bamboo plant in center and finish up with more layers until you reach the base of the neck . Place it in a corner or where you'd like to view it and then fill with water to the top of your rocks/marbles.
Put decorative design paper print inside ,no need to glue or paint.change print to set different decor in it . And put decorative branches n flowers ...

I like to do large floral arrangements. Tall bamboo sticks or beach grass make pretty arrangements. You can add sand & shells to bottom if you like the coastal look. Or branches from a tree that has interesting textures.

We have used a 5 gallon water jug for years to fill with coins and it is amazing how fast you have $1,000 plus dollars for vacations, etc.

Yep, we put only pennies in ours and keep it in a corner of the living room. A friend of mine used the change from his to go on an annual vacation!
