What a great way to show your team spirit and do your homework! We’ve all seen these great old school desk up cycled, but I wanted something different so I got my Kristi Kuehl Pure Home Paint and Finishes and went to town.
First I took the top off the base so I could paint the inside of the desk easily. Then sanded the rusty spots and cleaned everything with 50/50 water and vinegar, then a painting I went. (I picked a college theme so I had to mix a custom color).
I applied my first coat of paint very thin, then a little heavier for the second and finished it up with Kristi Kuehl Pure Home Paint & Finishes NON-TOXIC Gloss Protective Sealer.
I then painted the chair in the same custom colors I mixed for the base of the desk and recovered the seat.
Then it was on to the top! I painted a thin coat of Kristi Kuehl Pure Home Paint & Finishes Saffron (yellow) for the base coat over the laminate top before I applied my Kristi Kuehl Pure Home Paint & Finishes Vibrant Splatter. I applied the colors randomly on the top of the desk. I then sprayed them lightly with water and applied plastic over the top so I can move the colors around. Once they were completely blended I remove the plastic straight up and got a beautiful affect. After it dried I applied Kristi Kuehl Pure Home Paints & Finishes NON-TOXIC Gloss Protective Sealer and that's all it took.
I put the top back on the desk and it was done!
