I think craft pumpkins are the greatest invention ever! Unlike real pumpkins, they'll keep year after year, and the decorating possibilities are endless! While I've decorated lots of craft pumpkins, this was the first time I've tried carving one and went a little spookier than I tend to go for my Halloween decor.
Supplies: for this project I used a large craft pumpkin, metallic acrylic paint, rubber mice and snakes, and an apple corer.
Step 1: I started by poking holes in the pumpkin using an apple corer. I also cut a circle around the stem of the pumpkin so I could remove the top part and insert a candle (similar to carving a real pumpkin).
Step 2: I covered the pumpkin in 3 coats of metallic silver paint.
Step 3: I painted my mice and snakes with gold paint!
Step 4: I glued the mice and snakes to the pumpkin using e6000 glue. I had some mice peeking out of the holes.
An apple corer made holes the perfect size for the mice. I found my mice in the Halloween aisle of my local grocery store and painted them gold. Because gold makes everything better!
I love how this turned out and it looks especially cool with a battery operated candle inside. If you like this pumpkin idea, then don't miss my vinyl-decorated pumpkinVinyl Decorated Pumpkin Tutorial !
