Wood Canisters Turned Jack-O-Lanterns

4 Materials
You just never know what you are going to find at the thrift store do you?! These wood canisters that I found made the perfect Jack-O-Lantern treat holders.
Last year I found two of these wooden canisters and, as with most things I scoop up, I didn't know exactly what I would do with them.

Then, along comes Fall and I thought they'd make the cutest Jack-O-Lanterns.

This is really one of those projects that is so quick and easy. It took about 30 minutes and all I needed was a little orange, black and brown paint and some raffia.
Here are the steps that turned a couple of outdated canisters into the perfect Halloween treat holders;

1. Paint the canisters or containers orange.

2. Paint on the face of your choice using black paint. If you are more comfortable, draw on the face with pencil first and then fill it in with paint.

3. Paint the handle brown to look like the stem of the pumpkin.

4. Tie on some raffia for the vines.
It is honestly that simple.

Take a look at the thrift store next time you are there and see if you can find something that you can turn into a Jack-o-Lantern. It is a great way to add a little Halloween fun to your home for next to nothing.

The added bonus with these? Not only are they fun and whimsical but they are perfect to set by the door to hold your treats.
If you love paint as much as I do and are looking for some Autumn inspiration, be sure to check out the "Paint the Colours of a Canadian Fall" series over on the blog.
And when you're hunting up something for your Jack-O-Lanterns... be on the look out for some cute glass jars. These ones, painted the same way as the canisters, make the perfect little addition to my Fall decor. Just slip an electric tea light inside and they glow all night long.

    You could mod podge orange paper onto the glass as well instead of painting... But these are adorable

      That's a great idea too! There are always so many fun things you can do ;) I have not tried mod podge but love projects I have seen using it.
