Cheap (free) MDF Table to Console Table

I needed a console table off my front door. I planned on making my own, but couldn't decide on a design I wanted. Found a few designs I liked online, but wasn't too happy with them. Trash day is on Mondays so I go for a drive looking for things I can find. AMAZING WHAT PEOPLE THROW OUT! I happen to find this cheap MDF desk thrown out with some sofas and side chairs. One of those knock down ready to assemble kind. Looked like something I can work with.
The top was MDF covered with wood grain looking paper all beat up. Scratches on everything. The legs were the only thing that were solid wood. So I cleaned it up and it looked bad. So I started to lightly sand it to remove any gloss and smooth out the paper and fuzziness on the top. At least the drawer worked.
Removed the drawer pulls and primed it with two coats of primer. I have a lot of left over paint so I generally mix my own colors. I wanted base to be a warm grey tone so I mixed some black paint with tan paint to get the shade I was looking for. I also had one quart of free paint from Glidden called Black Mahogany. Used the mahogany for the top, drawer front, and accent bead. Three coats of satin poly for the base and three coats of gloss poly for the top, drawer front and bead. I also spray painted the drawer pulls in metallic aluminum from a previous project.
Here it is all finished and a perfect fit in its space. Looks pretty good. Want to get three baskets for the bottom shelf. Off to the thrift store!
