Blech! That desktop must have been used by a toddler! Rather than replacing the old felt writing area, we created an elegant faux leather finish with paints.
Yikes! This felt pad was not repairable, & while it is replaceable. I am not a fan of the felt top & didn't want to pay for a leather pad$$$. Instead we sanded it off.
Next, we patched the lines where the wood pieces met up and sanded it all smooth before painting.
First, a base layer was painted in & then we used unlikely materials to apply the leather look. Yes, that is a plastic grocery bag. This helped create the lines and texture of leather.
3 paint colors and one glaze were used to create this gorgeous finish! We would love it if you would come to visit the full post on our blog!
