A Refurbished Flame Mahogany Duncan Phyfe Using Wise Owl HEMP SEED OIL

I was lucky enough to find this beautiful Duncan Phyfe table, but sadly, it was in need of repair. It must have been left out in the rain or something because the top was raised up where the graining was and there were rough spots to it. It also was in need of some minor repairs to make it more stable and less wobbly.
The base of this beauty was in pretty good shape, other than the legs needed some re - glueing for support and one of the legs was actually broken (luckily, a clean break).
AND this piece had the original hardware and some stately metal feet. The size of the table is larger than a typical end table at 30 1/2" square and 30" high. And those feet!!!
I stripped and sanded the top of the table. I was originally thinking I was going to do some of my stained artwork on top because I really wasn't sure how this was going to play out with the damaged top. But after I got it all sanded down, I realized that the graining itself was all the artwork this table needed.
I was planning on using a mahogany stain on this, but I have been reading so much about Wise Owl Hemp seed Oil that I decided to give it a try... and oh, how pleased I am!
Here's a little tidbit of info from Wise Owl Paint's website about their Hemp Seed Oil:

" It will harden and become one with the surface (cure) and reach its strongest finish and bond once it has fully dried, lending its strengthening property to the finish of paint and wood. This can take between 2 weeks and a 30 days depending on environmental temperature and humidity. You may still use your piece finished with hemp oil in the meantime, but take care to protect it from water and heavy wear and tear until it has cured. Hemp oil is suitable for outdoor use, and may be applied in multiple coats to produce a more water resistance finish."

I also used this oil on the base of the table to give it some conditioning. And polished up the hardware and feet!
It was looking pretty FAB, but there was one thing that was holding me back from feeling as though it was finished... hemp seed oil dries to a matte finish. I felt the top of the table needed a bit more sheen to match the rest of the table.

Wise Owl just released a new product called Lemon Verbena Furniture Salve.
"This is a magical furniture "ointment" designed to richen, beautify and protect both raw and finished wood. It has a high hemp content and will easily apply to surfaces using a lint free cloth. It will also removes oxidation from metal and will rejuvenate leather. Yes you can use it on your boots too! It provides protection against water and may be used in place of furniture polish as well. You may use it in place of hemp wax over paint for a softer great smelling alternative! I use it on EVERYTHING wood in my home. And on top of its super powers... this stuff smells phenomenal!!! "

After talking to the owner of Wise Owl, I was told this product was probably just what I was looking for, as it has much more sheen than the hemp seed oil and will also offer greater moisture resistance. AND I was lucky to have been sent a sample! So, I gave it a try..
I think you can probably tell which side has the furniture salve on it?!

I'm loving this beautiful table!!

Would you share your steps/products on stripping furniture? This is an area I really struggle with. I can't seem to get everything off. Gorgeous table and I'm a huge fan of Wise Owl.

I absolutely love it! You did a great job! One question thought as I'm just looking around at different projects using wise owl stuff. I'm refinishing my grandmothets 1920s sewing table. Stripping the 500 layers of paint off and found the most beautiful wood!! From wht um reading you used the hemp oil and salve? Is that correct? From what I saw on a couple other sites/videos it seems like I may only have to use the furniture salve and have the same results? It would be great to eliminate a step although I'd personally love your thoughts as I would just die for my project to be half as gorgeous as yours. Those to hear back from you soon!

    Julie
