Use the wall space. You can hang the bikes on the walls, as well as skis, snowboard, etc. Here are some ideas:

Sure would be nice of hubby to take some responsibility in helping to clean up this mess....not very nice of him...
Ha! My ex hubby's looks much worse! Pick a weekend to devote to this project. Get some help, drag everything out and organize, put back in a logical fashion. If he doesn't want to help, hire a couple local high school or college kids to move the heavy stuff around for you. And feed them well!
Make four piles: keep / donate / sell / trash. Then separate the items into those piles. It makes the job a lot easier to organize. My husband is a "pack rat" and would never get rid of anything if it weren't for this plan. It makes him feel good to donate the things he rarely uses, and we have even made some cash from the stuff we no longer need. With whatever you decide to keep, use your wall space. IKEA (either in-store or online) has very good hooks, bins and other devices to help you organize almost anything -- all at great prices. Good luck.
Put up pegboard on a wall. This way the smaller tools can be easily found. When I bought my house, it had a workshop out back. The owner had a pegboard on the wall as you walked into the building. All of the tools, etc. that hung on the pegboard were outlined......as to where they were to be.....every thing had its place and no misunderstandings about where it goes. Try to find some older shelving or dressers to hold the larger power, hand tools Dressers were also in my building and held various things. Just think, all the paint can be together on a shelving unit or in a dresser.......as well as your paint sticks, brushes, scrappers, nails, and etc. Label the drawers and shelves......so no one can just put the stuff anywhere. Lots of luck.....and only the best to you and yours on your project.
Don't forget, you can make a shelving out of cinder blocks and some long pieces of wood........no hammering or regular building. This would be great for your extra paints.......easy to see.
Agree with making the piles! Get rid of the trash and give to charity. Now you deal with what you are keeping and selling. Not sure if you are a yard sale type person or an online type seller, just remember to clean everything, make sure it all still works right/not broken and if it is mention this when you are selling the item.
Now you need that weekend to hang bikes and helmets together, get some 2x4's or wood pallets and make tall on the wall storage bins. These could hold the tall yard tools/equipment or skis. Get plastic storage bins in various sizes or an old dresser for tools. Plastic containers work great for nails, screws and such. Some open shelving on the wall or a old bookcase would be great for things that get used more often. Make the ceiling work for you too by hanging a loft storage, a good place for the stuff you only use once or twice a year
Good luck and vibes going your way!
First i would ask myself what i wanted from tbis space. Now its time to get started !!! Talk with your hubby and compromise. When all else fails send him away call for help like the salvation army to take it away far away!!!! Good Luck
You can utilize your garage wall, installing garage wall shelves, https://www.fleximounts.com/garage-wall-shelves/.
Rubbermaid makes excellent storage systems. However, I would try to keep everything off the floor so that you can hose it down when needed.
I have several organizing posts that might help you https://chascrazycreations.com/diys/how-tos/organizing/
