Hairspray is worth a try as it does wonders for ink on clothes through a washer.
Try white vinegar and a stiff brush .... also try hydrogen peroxide. Both have done wonders for me.
Zoot. You can find it in most supermarkets. It was made for nurses and doctors to remove blood and ink stains. Good luck
Try hydrogen peroxide. The a damp towel.
I agree with hydrogen peroxide and a damp towel. You might have to do it a couple of times
I don't think you should get rid of the permanent marker sitting on your carpet. We got new light beige carpet (hubby's choice). It took no time for sweet tea, popsicles, juice boxes, coffee, even water bottles, to magically leave drips and drops behind, especially in our bedroom, where the grands have their toys and watch Odd Squad and Tangled: The Series. Papaw drinks the tea and coffee. The water is mine.
After trying the other solutions suggested, I think you should buy a big stiff rug in many dark colors and cover the whole area. Make that the play area, or coloring place, if that makes sense. Don't worry much about whether the rug messes up the decor or furniture arrangement. The carpet does that. And keep the permanent markers in a box in a high cabinet. Except the human ones. You can love them. Bless you 😇
Try Listerine.
Try Krud Kutter from HomeDepot, etc. If that can't get it out, I think you may be out a carpet.
Windex!
Also works fantastic for fingernail polish on carpet.
