Rescue of a Sad, Lonely Accent Table "Turning the Paige"

Paige was pretty scratched up and worn out, but she had good bones. We snatched her up and packed her in with all the other pieces we found that day and took her home. She was an after thought. Why not? She had potential.
We could tell Paige was handcrafted when we turned her over and saw the markings. She needed to be beautiful again!
We stripped and stained the top after sanding out the scratches, primed the bottom with Wallprim from Pure and Original and the applied Fresco, a lime paint also supplied by Pure and original for this project.
In the original post at Love My DIY Home (link at the bottom), I show you how my DH scraped off the finish. It was rather easy, though messy.
You can roll or spray on the primer, but not the Fresco lime paint. You will lose the dramatic nuances of the paint color if you don't use a brush. For the Fresco, I used a special Chinese pig-haired brush from Pure and Original. They sent me the primer, Fresco, brush and topcoat to try out. I was impressed with all of their products!
Each part was top coated. One coat for the top, a mandala stencil and then finished up with three more coats of topcoat over the stencil.
Getting the stencil exactly centered was challenging since the top wasn't perfectly cut. Handcrafted furniture isn't always perfect, but it is special since it's a one-of-a-kind piece.
The sheen is beautiful. Satin and flat are my preferred finishes. The wipe on poly gave a nice sheen – here you can see the reflection of the vase on the table top. There is something about a bit of sheen that makes the whole piece look valuable. I was pleasantly surprised at the outcome.
Small projects are great for learning new techniques and trying out new products. Pure and Original is new to the US, and a very high quality product. I tried the topcoat, the Dead Flat Eco Sealer, from P&O for the first time and really liked the open time and quality finish. Topcoats can be intimidating!
Applying topcoat can be tricky because the open time is usually very short. But I found both topcoats that I used to be easy to use and with a great open time. Too often it dries faster than you can apply and gives a "drag" that ruins the look. Neither of these had that issue.
