I put window film on my kitchen windows for privacy. Love it.
You can frost the glass. It is is a a can of spray paint only it is glass frost. And if you want you can put tape on the window to create a pattern so it is not entirely frosted or only do it half way up
Contact paper that looks like frosted window film, comes in a variety of designs and can be found at Lowe's or Home Depot .
Be crafty -try the lace and cornstarch technique (google?) if you still want light coming in.
Put up a curtain rod and use drapes.
i have blackout drapes on my patio doors. They help with privacy, keep heat out and you can open them as needed for light. Plus they add color to that area of my room.
I painted mine with craft paint and used a bath scrubbie shoved down inside a champagne flute like a dauber. Gives me a lot of privacy and easy to remove.
You can use a darkening window film or soak some lace in cornstarch and water and apply to glass. It will pull right off if you no longer want it.
You can put up long curtains. I had blinds on my patio door and did that. That way I can have all of the light come in during the day but have the privacy at night. They also look much more elegant than blinds.
If it's French doors, you can buy sash rods that are placed at top and bottom of the doors, and put lace or filmy curtains that have rod pockets top and bottom. You need width about twice the width of the windows, so curtains are shirred on the rods.
