Boy, bet that tasted good! I would try and take the rest of this down in pieces. It looks like it might be 3 pieces put together. Measure from top to bottom so you will know how much wood you will need. Take the pieces to HD or Lowes and try to match up what you need. I believe the rest is just piecing it together, nailing it up, caulking the seams, sanding and painting. Just be really careful when you take it down. Take pictures of it before you take it down. You might not want to do this yourself, but I would at least give it a shot. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
Hello Vs_01854, I think you could take the damaged part off yourself. Take it with you to Home Depot, Menard's, etc. They will tell you what you need to replace it. They can even cut your new boards for you (usually for free). Take your new boards home and nail into place. It looks like your dog didn't get the base board so nothing to replace there. Hope this helps you. Good luck.
There is a product called plastic wood. Apply it and sand it to blend with the original wood. Repaint the door frame.
$200 to fix that???? Sounds like LA prices - you have great suggestions here, they will work and you can do this! (You should see what the chihuahua puppy did to my carpet! All the other dogs - nothing! The tiny one caused the most expensive damage!)
Take photos, measure it, go to hardware store and get a small jimmy/crowbar 6" long, and then slowly pry where the nails are or you can get in the seam, working up and down the board until its loose. Then pry off. Take to lumber yard and have the guys help you pick the wood you need, and cut to fit from your measurements.
Get finish nails and carpenters glue. Use the other side as your guide, and begin to apply the various wood strips. Tip don't nail too close to the edges as it will split the wood. Fill nail dents and seams with wood filler, sand, prime and paint.
This shouldn't be a difficult fix. Like with most things you should be able to find youtube videos explaining how to put in door casing and trim. Once you know how it's constructed just pay attention to how you deconstruct the damaged pieces. Use Alex Painters caulk for any gaps where the pieces join, and to cover nail holes. (with or without silicone is fine, it's about 1.50 to just over 3.00). If you don't have a finish nail gun use a staple gun or just buy finish nails. I know this doesn't exactly tell you 'how to' but I hope the tips help.
I think first couple suggestions were spot on. Take pics before , and at lowes or home depot they'd love to help a woman. Show you where nails, cut boards to size( bring chewed one) they'll love the story! You got this girl! $200 bleeeeeek! Do it yourself with a little help from the dudes at the hardware store! Goodluck
Thanks all for your suggestions!! I did check out a youtube video on how to patch a hollow door which is similar to my problem. Will try that first as it seems less daun before I attempt to remove the wood and put a new piece back on. Wish me luck :)
I would recommend using a product that is cheap and available almost everywhere called "Rock Hard" its a water putty that cures fast and solid. Ive used it many times repairing window sills and door casings with much success. just use caution as not to apply too much, although it is sandable it takes a lot of effort to remove any excess.
Get a piece of wood and cut it to fit. Use some wood putty to fill any cracks and then you can paint.
My bulldog chewed the bottom of my bedroom door trying to get in and i never closed the door on him again (he taught me).
Agree with con28399884 the product is called Rock Hard Putty and we got our at Lowes for less then $10 and the stuff works on almost everything.
No! You have to bite the bullet!
