DIY Wine Cork Trivet

Wine, wine and more wine! With summer ending and school around the corner I am sure you don't need much convincing to gather "materials" for this project. Repurpose your corks and make a trivet!

PRO TIP: Boil corks to make them easier to cut.
Cut each wine cork in thirds with the kitchen knife. Try to cut as close to the middle as possible, so each will be the same height.
Sand the rough edges smooth and even out the height, if necessary.
Arrange the wine corks in your desired pattern. Flip all the corks over, then start by gluing the center line together. A thin line of glue along the side is sufficient.
Then glue more corks, one by one, onto that center line until they are all glued together.
Once the glue is set you may paint as needed. Let dry and it is ready to use.
