I spend a lot of time in our RV during the summer. I love our RV but it does have some things that I want to update. One of those things was the bedroom valances. The previous owner replaced the valances in the front but left the old flowered ones from the 90's in the bedroom. I hated the big, gaudy tulip print on them so, as is my habit as a DIY girl, I gave them a much needed makeover.
Before
See, told you they were not attractive!
I removed them and brought them in the house and cleaned and vacuumed them. Using Glidden dark grey exterior paint, I painted them. I don't think it would really matter if it was interior or exterior, but that what I had a lot of, so that's what I used. I used a paint roller for most of the surface and a paint brush on the places that the roller couldn't get to. There are three windows in the bedroom and I painted all three. I did not use a fabric medium with the paint because this is not furniture anyone would sit on or use. If I were painting a chair, for example, I would definitely add a fabric medium to the paint to give it a softer, more flexible feel. I put on 3 coats and let it dry between each coat.
After - Side window with blinds
I put curtains up over the blinds, as one of the side window blinds was broken and had to be taken down. My preference would to only have the blinds up but the RV blinds are very expensive so I made curtains for the time being.
After - side window with curtains
The color didn't show very well in the photo, but the curtains are the same silver/blue as my comforter and the same grey as the valance.
What a difference it made in the room. It looks cleaner and more classic.
If I decide to keep that comforter in the RV, I may later change the color of the valances to dark brown to match. I am very pleased with how it came out. I am thrilled to have the tulips gone and my RV bedroom now looks up to date.

Well done, I like the gray! I know nothing about RVs, could you not have a regular blind custom cut?
