Make Room by Storing Your Ladder Overhead in the Garage!

I have several ladders... and they end up in the corner taking up space on the floor! Since I don't use it all the time, getting it up and out of the way is a priority for my small shop/garage.
With just a few supplies from Lowes... and some PVC pipe I had in a pile... I can make a cheap and effective overhead storage for the ladder.
- I bought a 2 pack Storage hanger $6.38
- A Utility Hook $3
- a 3foot 3/8" all thread rod $3
- A few washers and 3/8" nuts.
Since I am mounting it on the ceiling... I needed to remove the hook portion. I was able to re-use the black plastic caps.
An $10 angle grinder made quick work of the threaded rod and the angle brackets.
Here is the off cut of the all thread rod... I only used about 26" worth.
In the middle I used a small piece of PVC I had laying around... this allows the ladder to roll onto the PVC instead of having to slide across the metal.
I drilled a 3/8" hole through each side of the mounts and put the all thread rod through using bolts and washers.
The PVC pipe has enough space to roll freely.
I mounted the brackets into the roof stud using 3 inch exterior grade screws... they are thicker and hold up under load better.
Putting the ladder up is easy. It slides rolling on the PVC pipe.
I then just push the other side up into the hook to hold it in place.
Here you can see the final result. Up and out of the way, but easily reached when needed.
