I saw this tutorial somewhere and I have been wanting to try it. I already had the Looking Glass Spray. I bought the spray paint because someone did mercury glass Easter eggs. But they were a fail for me, when I attempted to make them. I have to admit I was really skeptical going into this project. But, I like that it ended up taking 3 rather different looking pumpkins and made them look cohesive enough to put in a vignette together. icon
It is a super simple supply list. Vinegar, water, spray bottle, paper towels, glass / ceramic pumpkins and Krylon Looking Glass spray paint.
I started with Dollar Tree pumpkins. These are breakable and very glossy.
I mixed equal parts water and vinegar in a spray bottle.
I sprayed this mixture on the pumpkin. I was pretty heavy handed with the spraying.
I, then, immediately sprayed with spray paint.
I waited a couple of seconds and the patted it in random areas removing the paint that was on the vinegar mixture.
Some were more silver and and one was more orange and I loved them all. I don't like things perfect or too identical. I like it that each one has its own style. I am probably one of the few people that finds beauty in imperfections. There is usually a story on why it didn't turn out perfect.
They are nice props for my newest treat holders.
I am really delighted with how these turned out. I was so reluctant to try this because I was afraid of ruining the perfectly good pumpkins but I am so glad I risked it.
This is my next tutorial, an owl treatholder. icon
This one has Sweetarts inside!
Just a little 30 second video of the process.
