I'm sure you've heard a lot about Chalk Paint®. It is one of my favorite ways to transform an old, worn out piece of furniture into something that can be loved again. Chalk Paint® is known for giving pieces an aged, vintage look, but there's so much more to the paint than that. If you're dying to try this amazing paint, but want a more modern look, you're in luck! It's totally possible with these few tips!
1. Fill in any gashes and scratches in your piece with wood filler to give your piece a more smooth finish before you start painting.
2. Apply paint in long, smooth strokes.
3. Lightly sand the whole piece. This will even out your finish of any brush strokes.
4. Apply a second coat if necessary and sand again once dry.
5. On your final coat, pour a little paint into a plastic cup, add some water, mix and paint with long, smooth strokes. This watered down mixture will give you a thinner paint to work with. Chalk Paint® can be a little thick, so watering it down will help prevent brush strokes and give a smoother top coat finish.
6. Once dry, lightly sand with a high grit sanding sponge.
7. Apply clear wax, being sure to buff to a slight sheen.
8. Add updated, sleek hardware to finish off the modern look.
By following these simple steps, you can enjoy this wonderful paint and still get that modern look you're going for! Happy painting!
