Wash with color like clothes in a laundry bag
If you have athletic shoes that are not leather, clean the bottom of the shoes. Then throw the athletic shoes, flip flops, beach sandals, pool shoes, and polyester shoes in one or two pillowcases, along with all the shoestrings you can find. Tie each pillowcase at the top. Wash in a low level, small load with minimal detergent. When washed, take out all the shoes and let them dry naturally. Dry the shoelaces and pillowcases in the dryer or hang to dry. BTW, many athletic shoes can be thrown in the dryer. Use your best judgement. Best wishes 😇
If you don’t have that mesh bag used for delicates, good rubber band around a pillow case will work.
