Challenge Accepted: To make a knick knack into something useful. The area beside my chair has become a hot mess. You know the place where you make your nest when you do sit for a spell...lol. Recently, Silvey, my precious fur baby, knocked my coffee over and everything was floating in the dish. I knew then I had to fine a solution to my mess. While on a treasure hunt at one of our local thrift stores, I found just what I needed to help me conquer my mess. PS. I cleaned up a little before taking the pic, can't share all of my secrets.
This is where I kept my stuff, drove me nuts. I felt like I was always digging for something.
This looked just like what I needed for my nest.
The price had been marked down to .79 because the box was part of a set and a piece was missing. Happy Dance!
I decided to paint the box red, since I needed some color by my chair. I used acrylic paint. the name of the color was crimsom.
I painted the front and the inside of each compartment.
I also painted the back since it will be seen.
I used the color yellow ochre acrylic paint to print the labels. The first compartment is for pens and pencils ✏️, the next one is for glasses 👓, the widest compartment is for my phone 📱 and the smallest one is for a file and clippers or whatever needs a home.
Once I had the compartments labeled, I used a black paint marker to accent the words.
I used a hot glue gun and added twine along the edges.
This picture is after the twine was glued around each compartment. For an additIonal touch, I also added a simple twine bow to the top and bottom of the piece.
To protect my furniture, I placed bumper guards on each corner.
This is the finished piece. I like that I have a phone compartment too. Now, I won't have to search for what I need. Love 💞 my useful knick knack.

Very clever and cute, Susan. But my furbabies would soon have it on the floor!

Susan K Mullins on Jan 02, 2018Thank you, Leah. I have one kitty, but she just walks around things unless it is small, then she will knock it in the floor with her paw. Love my Silvey Girl! She assists me in most of my posts 🐾
