I have been a hobbyist woodworker for most of my adult life and started repurposing almost 30 years ago. Consequently I have pictures of projects that were completed before the internet and before Hometalk. Most often I have just one photo and it could be a "before" or an "after photo". I decided to post some of these pictures and describe, rather than show, some of the details. I hope you enjoy the tour.
Headboard, footboard, and rails.
Probably done around 2005 and I think it is a queen. The footboard and headboard started panel doors, but the panels were replaced with beadboard. The pediment on the headboard was taken from a twin bed and the ends were filled in with antique textile spools. The rails interlock with the headboard and footboard to take "the wobble" out of such a tall bed.
Headboard using a door.
Probably done around 2006 and I think it is for a double bed. The posts are made from layered lengths of 2 by 4s with beveled or coved cuts at the bottom.
Headboard using a door.
Similar design, as before, but a different door and primed, ready for paint.
I think this is a full sized bed.
Similar design, as before, but no pediments and finished natural.
Headboard using a door.
Height added by adding a trim board at the bottom.
A queen headboard using a pocket door.
The carved/curved elements were once table legs.
A close up of the former legs.
I am confident this ended up being a headboard, but couldn't find an after photo. Note that it resulted an assimetrical panel pattern and I am sure I fixed the burnt portion.
Still another double/full sized headboard.
The reclaimed door had been made from 3/4" breadboard and the posts are the top and bottom sections of a porch column.
Full size antique walnut headboard.
This headboard was purchased with a footboard, that I cut almost in half. Then I used those pieces to widen it to a King. The pieces needed to be lengthened, but the real detailed work was at the top and the modified part is hidden by the mattresses.
How it looked as a king.
This is a kingsize headboard I made for our bedroom and described in an earlier posting
(https://www.hometalk.com/diy/bedroom/furniture/shiplap-headboard-28950585).
Headboard with shiplap detail.
There are a lot of design options when making a headboard. Some are more complicated or detailed than others. They may have a footboard and/or attached to a bed frame, or they can be hung on the wall. Browse "Headboard" on Hometalk and you will find a lot of ideas.

Thanks for viewing.
