We started with faux butcherblock laminate and went with Tile. Hmmmm...Yes, I said tile.
Hey Ya'll! Let me remind you that I had no idea I'd ever post these or write about our progress on this house. But, as you can see, things change and I'm, doing just that!
We started with this kitchen at purchase. It was small, but floor space was awesome. Poorly laid out if you will.
The reason I went with 24X24 porcelain tile is it allowed me way more options. What options you ask, I'll Share the options.
I have a 4 level spinal fusion, and the option here was I could raise the counters up 3 inches and not affect the overall look in any way. My counters topped out at just shy of 39 inches! Major win there.
Secondly, I drop things. ALOT of things. I break things, ALOT of things! On the off chance I were to break one of these tiles, OMG< can you say easy peasy to replace! It's just one tile, a little grout and I'm done! And I had 1 and 1/2 boxes left over for just that reason. I would not be replacing big sections of granite, marble or such.
And if I may add just this little thing: Do you see that? Yeah, that little bottom line there? That itty bitty teensy weensy number there?
Can you say; "OH YEAH AND HECK YEAH BABY!"
The purchasing realtor, Who was buying the house from us needed the warranty info on the tile and it was packed up in a utility room of stuff to stay with the house. So I called the place of purchase and he sent this pic and the message below. (this is the only close up I could get for ya'll.)
Have never wanted to say that, but I believe I just did. Ha Ha...
Ya'll, this porcelain tile was some kind of heavy. it came 4 pieces to a box. Oh and so easy to clean! I'm talking damp paper towel and you are good to go. Like I said about dropping things, I dropped 3 plates, several coffee cups, a heavy stainless boiler and the result was no harm to the counters! The coffee cups and 1 plate did not, ummm survive the impact. But the counters proved that they could survive Hope Williams! So much so that I am putting them in our new house now. Yep, I'm doing it all over again. And with the same Porcelain.

Have a question about this project?
Did ya put the base over the existing Formica counters or did they have to be removed first and then the plywood etc put down?
