Letting them dry out may not be a good idea, depending on the type of plant. Try watering more often and also try giving them a little fertilizer, like Miracle Gro.
Do you give them some type of fertilizer? What kind of light are they getting? Some plants do well in direct light and some don't. Do you have a water meter? You just insert it into the soil and the meter will indicate if it is time to water or not. If using tap water let it sit out for at least 24 hours before using. That allows the some of the chemicals in the water to evaporate. Have you check the PH level of your soil? PH is a measure of acidity. PH is reported as a number between 0 and 14. Anything below 7 is acidic and anything above 7 is alkaline. A value of 7 is neutral. Could the plants have bugs? Use a magnifying glass to check the leaves.
Hi Rehana, You don't say what the plants are or what conditions you are planting them in to. Might I suggest you buy or borrow a book on garden plants or when you go to the store next to buy plants you go to a Garden centre where you can ask for and will be given advice on what to buy and how to treat them, they are not all the same you know.........
As soon as you bring it home, check to see if it needs to be repotted, check on line for the care it needs, as Ann said, some plants like to stay moist, some like to get really dry between watering's. Some plants like fertilizer, some do better with poor soil, like some herbs. Hubby and I always research the plant when we are in the store to make sure that we have a spot for it where it will get the light it likes to stay healthy.
And make sure you have them planted in the right place. Our Hostas have been stunning for years, but when we lost our trees that were shading them, the afternoon west sun exposure is making them look awful! They were moved yesterday to under the only small tree in our front yard!
We live in a jungle, but open to the hot sun now!
My first thought was fertilizer, too, just as Ann suggested. How about sunlight requirements? Ask at the store if they need 8-12 hours of sunlight, or just filtered afternoon sun. Should the soil dry out or do they like to keep their roots damp? There are some plants that should never dry out. I love plants in my house, too, Rehana. Don't they just add a feel of elegance and freshness? My cat loves my flowers, too, (did you know some are poisonous to pets - and children!) so I am limited to hanging plants out of kitty's reach. He still loves batting the dead leaves across the floor! I tell him to just leave them under the sofa and I'll sweep up the crumbs when I get around to it! : )
Hi Rehana, I think it could be a light issue since you have this problem with every plant. Make sure they get the right light required for the type of plant and fertilize them with an all purpose organic food when u get them home.
It depends on what kind of plants. Some need more water, others much less. Same for the sun they receive.
