Organize Your Kid's or Kids' Clothes With a Foreign Flair

I am constantly looking for new ways to organize my teen's clothes. She hates dressers and so I have been looking for an unconventional way to organize and store her clothes. I came up with this budget friendly solution using hooks and dollar store baskets but it would be even cuter with some wicker baskets with liners. My children are very intrigued with foreign languages so I thought it might be fun and educational (for her and me!) to use chalkboard labels but label her items in other languages. Since she is an older teen, I opted to forgo the English word but you could easily add that if you were so inclined. I think this idea would work great in nurseries, toddler rooms and even dorm rooms. (I realize this may need to be modified in ways to meet the height of your children. But, you all are smart cookies and can figure that out.) I think it is a great alternative to dressers but I know it isn't for everyone. I can just hear, "Oh! The Horror!" right now. icon And as far as the cost goes, the set of 3 decorative hooks were $13 so if you just use Command hooks, this project could be done for around $15.
This looks like a lot of stuff, doesn't it? I had 2 kinds of hooks and 2 kinds of labels because I wasn't sure what was going to work out and what wasn't. I ended up using only one type of labels but a mixture of the hooks. Here we have 6 Dollar Tree baskets, Dry Erase Clip On Labels, Chalkboard labels, jute twine, 3 decorative hooks and 3 Command hooks.
I tied the chalk labels on with some jute twine that I had on hand. I ended up moving the labels down lower than how they are pictured here because I thought it would be a better location for them. With my baskets all labeled, it is timed to put up the hooks.
I decided to put bras, underwear and socks on the back of her door. For the back of the door, I used Command hooks.
Before I put all the hooks on, I made sure it wasn't going to be a problem with the door opening. It makes a few inches of difference but if you press on the door it opens all the way.
My hooks came with anchors but at this time I didn't add them. If they get loose, I will add the anchors at that time.
These hooks are really cute and have a glass like dome on them. They are quite a bit smaller than I realized they would be but I still love them.
So, the hooks could hold bags and purses, too, or many small things and if you use the anchors, even more.
I added a few items and it seems like it will work great for me. I can even carry them to the laundry stacked inside one another. Fill 'em up and bring up back quite easily. I think this is a great idea for nurseries, toddler rooms and dorm rooms, too. (Oh, and when placing the hooks, measure twice put the screw in once. I messed up twice, before I hit the right location. I have spackling and painting to do now.)
So... I can't get this picture to move up so we'll just leave it right here. It is easy to find chalkboard labels all over. I found two different kinds in the party section of Target.
It really is an affordable option to organizing some of the smaller items that my teen wears.
I could not be more pleased with how it looks. And if you like this nightstand, you can find the tutorial here on Hometalk. I used two wood crates and a stairtread. http://www.hometalk.com/diy/bedroom/furniture...>
She had six items that I was storing in the baskets. I spent a little bit of time on Google trying different languages for each of the six items. Here are the words that I ended up with. bysthållare (Swedish) for bras, damasker (Swedish) for leggings, pantalones cortos (Spanish) for shorts, camisetas (Spanish) for tshirts, sous-vêtements (French) for underwear and chaussettes (French) for socks.

Thanks for sharing this great idea! My girl teen finally has her own room, but it's a small room. It doesn't even have a closet. I will definitely be trying this great project idea.
