How To Build Live Edge Coffee Table
The best part of this DIY live edge coffee table is it requires only two, locally sourced, pieces and the results rival end high-end furniture store. And the only power tool needed is a drill to attach the metal legs.
Below is the before. This is what a live edge slab looks liked at the Denver slab warehouse. Search "slabs" or "wood slabs" in your city. I found it via an online search.
We chose a Russian Olive tree. Each slab had a story as to where it was sourced in the Denver-metro area. It is very heavy and that is the hardest part to get it on a work table to stain it. Pricing was based on dimensions, type of tree, source etc.
I pre-treated the slab with a wood conditioner. This is my go-to step for stain projects. It dries quickly and the stain goes on like butter.
I followed up with multiple (like 5) coats of Jacobean stain. I love this stain. To see other stain projects with this stain scroll to the bottom. Love it!
I installed the metal legs I found on Etsy. These are solid and sturdy. Pre-drill the holes and then install the table legs to the "upside down" side. Because the slab company cut the table to the dimensions I wanted this was the only part of the project where I had to use a power tool.
I took this photo while standing on top of the table. It is sturdy!
We love the look! The raw edge is an impressive, one of a kind piece that makes a statement in our family room. It is a true Made in the USA coffee table!
