It’s white and I did not touch it! I was curious though and I have dogs, so I thought I need to find out what’s on the backyard tree.

Hi. It's fungi. Your tree is sick. Best to go ahead and cut it down rather than having is fall in a storm. Sorry.
So sorry.
flux, also known as foamy canker or alcoholic flux, occurs when bacteria penetrate bark wounds or cracks and the underlying cambial tissue. ... Pressure from the gasses builds inside the tree, eventually forcing white frothy liquid through the cracked bark.
How do you get rid of this?
I have the same- so sad. Sorry!
Slime flux has no cure - so the most positive thing about this (for everyone) is to learn that it can be prevented. Keep your tree and its bark healthy. Keep an eye on it from the time you plant it - or the time you buy your home. Inspect the bark for cracks that can allow insects and bacteria/fungi in. Clean and seal them. Wrap young trees in a wrap that allows them to grow without sunscorch to their bark. Make sure they are getting the water and fertilization they need. Watch for other pests that will be evident on leaves - at take action ASAP. Trees are an investment. They provide shade, oxygen, fruit or nuts, beauty and peace. Take care of them like you would any other living thing.
Fungi. Tree needs to be grinded out and do not plant in same spot. Sorry.
Did you have Spotted LaterenFly"s on this tree ? This is sap. They are sucking the sap out of it. And killing it. The tree should be cut down, But you cant move it. If you have a fire pit, You should burn it. Just in case there is any eggs on it, If there is eggs on it, You will have more stupid bugs on it next year,
Looks like a fungus. You might have to take the tree down to make sure it doesn't infect any other trees,
wishI
I knew what this means.....however it does have a smile on it.
