Christmas Rag Wreath Tutorial
My friends at Burlap Fabric sent me some beautiful red ticking stripe fabric. I knew the fabric would be perfect for a Christmas DIY! But if you’ve been around for a bit, you know that sewing is something I do not do. It’s not that I don’t want to. It’s just that I never learned how so I am so intimidated by it. I hope to learn one day, but today is not that day.
So, I started thinking up some ideas for fabric that didn’t require sewing and the thought of a Christmas rag wreath hit me. I remembered that I had some left over drop cloth from my DIY bedskirt, so I grabbed that to add in as well.
The first thing I did was gather my supplies and prepare my fabric strips that I was going to use. I used less than half the amount of drop cloth as I did ticking stripe fabric. I randomly added the drop cloth fabric here and there just to give a little contrast.
Using a ruler, I measured out 1″ width and 9″ length of the fabric. I snipped just a little piece with the scissors, then tore the fabric in strips. I did this because I wanted it to have the tattered edges. If you want clean cut edges, it would be best to cut your fabric with the scissors.
Now grab your favorite beverage and put on some good music or your favorite television show cause this is going to take a little time.
Take your first strip and tie it in a knot to the outer 2 edges of the wire form. Then take another strip of fabric and tie it on the 2 middle wires. Then tie a strip on the last 2 wires. Continue this process all the way around until your entire wire form is filled.
This is what the back will look like. You may need to occasionally push the knots together to keep them tight so that your wreath is full.
Once I had the wreath done, I wanted to add jingle bells in the center to give it a little extra Christmas-y look. I picked up a box of bells at Target and tied some jute rope to them, then tied them to the wire form.
This was a super easy project that adds lots of Christmas charm.
