How do I update my fireplace?

I had a mirror installed 30 years ago over my fireplace professionally. Just plain mirror with a small beveled edge. I can’t remove it without damaging the wall my husband claims :). Any ideas on updating it?

You could build a frame around it. Or take it down and repair the wall and put whatever you like up there. :)

Who cares about damaging the wall? Walls can be repaired. It just depends on how much of a change you want and how much work (or money) you are willing to pay for the change. Easiest would just be to frame the existing mirror with something that makes a statement. I would also consider making seasonal wreaths to display on the mirror itself.

Is it feasible to frame beyond the mirror's perimeter, permitting wood insert?
Personally, I agree with Naomie...just cover it for safety, then remove in sections, using a good glass cutter.
