How to Apply Annie Sloan Chalk Paint®️ Wax
Wax is a popular choice, but you can also use other finishes like varnishes and polycrylic. I like DecoArt Americana Decor Soft Touch Varnish.
I use polycrylic then I never have to worry about rewaxing the furniture.
Hello Jackie! When you use chalk paint it has to be finished with either a wax or a polyurethane finish coat so the paint is sealed and protected from scratches and moisture. Chalk paint left unfinished is very porous. Whether you choose to use wax or poly will depend on how much wear/use your piece will get. A coffee table or night stand may be fine with a waxed finish but I would use poly on a dining table top. If you plan on using a chalk painted furniture piece outside then you MUST use an exterior poly.
Use a sealing wax . It comes in clear or antique . You brush it on and wipe it off , like you would if you were staining something. Then it dries to a hard finish ! No waxy or soft feel !
you can seal it other ways but it does need sealed or it will rub off, like, well, chalk & don't need a high cost brand name product 7 ways to seal chalk paint https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnMTAh2c0e0 make your own chalk paint 4 ways https://salvagedinspirations.com/best-homemade-chalk-paint-recipes/
GK has a great answer, you do need to consider where the piece will be used. Also, often wax will give it a more matte finish and a poly will be much more shiny, if that makes a difference in how you want your final product to look.
Hi Jackie! There are many ways to seal in your Chalk Mineral Painted furniture! Dixie Belle Paint Company offers a variety of products to fit whatever style of finish you want!
There are 4 different kinds of clear coats: Flat, Satin, Gloss, and Gator Hide. The first three are the same but have a different finish. Gator Hide is water-repellent and tougher for more high-traffic areas like kitchens.

You could also use wax if you would like. There is a Best Dang Wax which is a creamy consistency that comes in a tin. There's also Easy Peasy Spray Wax which is super simple to use! Just spray on and wipe down!
