How can I cover the back of a high table with 23 x 23 piece of glass?

Just purchased a wood high table.. the top s/b sanded & restained, but I don’t have time to look for anything different because we are completing a home remodel and I am packing to move at the same time. Purchased table for staging our new kitchen & Glad I Saved the Earth!! I am going to get my dining room table glass re-cut by a local glass cutter to 32 x 32 for the high table I purchased. I want to “cover the back of the GLASS" to hide the “more than normal table top scratches." Want something that looks GREAT, is quick for staging "+ temporary" under the glass should I want to redo the entire color of table & chairs when we are moved and settled in our new home. Colors of gray & white were suggested for accent colors by realtor for kitchen. We will purchase similar cabinets where we move. I think plain gray, black, OR black & white for colors under the glass would work also. **My problem is I have quite a few ideas, but I don’t know what would look good "design wise" under the glass & quick to accomplish ...** PLEASE ADVISE and/or send pic’s or links that you think would look GREAT. See my ideas, what I like, what I think may work & Pictures of table, kitchen, placemats below! I have heard or seen these ideas to put under glass:Paint or Spray paint bottom gray or white frost (been told it can be temp., by scraping it off) Pennies to the back of the glass, is that generic enough & look good? I could then sew together the gray & white placemats into a runner and put it across the glass. I thought maybe:Purchase a sticky back "white frost or white design pattern" that is sometimes applied to windows for privacy (it would be temp.)Could sew together (in a square) the gray & white purchased placemats & cover the entire glass, but would the glass to slide off the placemats? It is heavy.Could purchase fabric of some design, maybe gray or black chevron or..? spray starch fabric to be taut) to edges? Attach with invisible sticky tape if there is such a thing..? May take too long to find fabric may not be best great looking choice? you tell me.Love calligraphy words, swirls, Eiffel tower. Would any of those work by printing white words/design on black paper and attach to back of glass? Is calligraphy too feminine?Don’t think I want big coffee cups, wine or beer related photos, or those words even though I like some of the beverages.. I Think:Stenciling & Etching may take too long and I wouldn’t know what to stencil or etch that would be generic and not look too feminine. THANKS a MILLION!!!

high table top. not what I expected..

High table.

new kitchen.

2nd pic new kitchen. table will sit in kitchen, not the best overall color for table, but it is what it is can't redo entire color of table. Our familyroom is connected and does have a leather couch & lg chair similar to high table color + black tv stand.

placemats & towels for staging. Gray & white as suggested by realtor. Keep everything neutral.

Penny idea pic I saw.

Circle pic I saw, but think this would take too much time & effort this time around.

This is a pic of a large table glass that is standing upright.

I could paint, spray paint my 32 x 32 bottom piece of glass:

  • all black
  • all gray
  • clear & black like above but a square bec my table is square (would have to see how the edges of table look)
  • or all frosted.

Black would cover all the bad top of table!

Pic of writing (as seen on Hometalk). Just too many different ideas to look at and decide quickly!!

  • Everything will come off of the glass (when you want it to) so pick a color and go for it! I would lay it down, use spray paint, spray the back until its completely opaque, let dry. Be sure to use those little rubber bumpers to give a little room/air. If you dont like it or are ready to do away with the color, saturate it in glass cleaner and begin using a razor blade carefully to scrape it away!

Silver or gold would look amazing, white would be super sleek, teal/aqua would be a pop and likely the shine from the glass may allow It to be subdued depending on the light in the room.

You could use a large piece of fabric under the glass to hide the scratches... I think that would be pretty.

paint the 'back' side of the glass; or get a fabulous piece of fabric or even table cloth to fit the table and place under the glass; be sure to utilize the little silicone buttons to keep the glass in place.

We covered our table with black pvc vinyl. You could put glass over this. Also it would look cool to etch the glass with a design. Then mount it on the table. There are a variety of ideas for actually attaching the glass to the table top.

My desk had the same problem. About forty years ago I got this desk from an ad in the paper. It is solid oak, except for the top which was some kind of rubber or something. The top was ruined. My husband and I scraped the rubber off and filled it with Bondo (yeah, the car body stuff). Not liking the top we covered it with a wood grain Contact Paper and then had a plexiglass top cut for it. I am sitting at that desk now with the same top. It is still beautiful after all these years.

There is a stained glass window vinyl that Lowes and Home Depot sells. All you would have to do is cut it to size. I think that would look amazing under the glass.

Cheap and fast? Look at wrapping paper, lots of designs available and under glass no one will know. If you paint the table white or black you could do a Jackson Pollock and splatter the opposite color with some gray.
