Chalk paint, unicorn spit and alcohol ink all work great.
It depends on what you'll be using the mason jars for - whether the paint goes on the inside or outside. They sell glass paint at craft stores and dishwasher safe Mod Podge to seal them.
My favorite is unicorn spit here is a link to show you how.

Chalk paint and spray paint for glass, both on the outside, work well.
Hi Ashley,
Whether you paint inside or outside depends on the purpose of the jar. There are a lot of mason jar projects posted by other Hometalk members. Here's a link for you to explore. Wishing you the best.

Chalk paint works really well on jars, but you certainly aren't limited to it alone. Acrylic craft paints will work too. Generally you only need to paint the outside and you can apply a spray clear coat to prevent chipping.
You can paint them with almost any paint. The trick is the proper prep. Make sure they are free of any grease or oil and then prime them with a really good adhesion primer like Kilz or BIN Shellac based primer. After the primer is dry you can paint with latex, chalk paint, acrylic paint.
If you want to go the extra mile, you can put a clear sealer (i love Varathane brand) to prevent any chipping.
