Dining Table and Chairs Makeover
Learn how to make over a dark and battered dining set to turn it into something more suited a for a light, airy dining room.
You can do this with any dining set, but if you have upholstered seats, it's especially fun to swap out the vinyl or fabric for a new color or texture to give the whole set a completely different feeling.
Gather all your supplies together.
Start by removing the seats from the chairs if you have upholstered dining chair seats.
Sand all the wooden surfaces thoroughly, and clean off any sanding dust.
Brush chalk paint on the furniture, getting into all the crevices and corners.
Let the first coat dry.
By the time you finish the table and each chair, you should be able to start the next coat on the first chair.
I used two coats of a white shade to cover espresso-colored furniture.
Remove the staples to remove the original upholstery fabric from the seat cushions.
Use that fabric to trace a template on the new fabric. Cut out the new fabric, and use a staple gun to re-cover the cushions.
Attach the re-covered cushions back on the seats.
Tip: Keep a jar or can of the paint handy to touch of scratches and dents that you may get in the future.
