Photo Decor Using An Old Window

I have always wanted to create photo home decor with an old window. This window wasn't really old or antique but it worked perfectly for this project.

I love digital scrapbooking. So instead of just printing off photos, I created some hybrid pages with metallic vinyl cut with my Silhouette to add some color and fun.

I already the materials for this project so I was a little bit harder to estimate cost.

This was my window when I started. It is about 46 inches wide and about 14 inches tall. It will be perfect above the sofa in my living room.

This window had been in the garage for a while so I started by cleaning it up and lightly sanding the wood frame. I was already painted but I re-painted it to a nice green that is the same as other projects in my living room.

After taping off the glass I painted two coats.

When it was completely dry I used a black ink pad for rubber stamping to add some faux distressing to the edges and corners.

The final coat was some creme wax and a good buff to create a slight sheen.

Then I got to work on the photo pages and the vinyl for the glass. I used the Tiff Blue vinyl from StyleTechCraft and cut out "to the moon and back" to place on the lower part of the window.

With the help of transfer tape I added the vinyl text to the glass.

When I designed my digital scrapbook pages on the computer I had titles and star embellishments. But before I printed them I removed the titles and all of the blue stars. I printed both versions for this tutorial.

Then I replaced the titles and the blue stars with vinyl on the final version of the page.

Once I had all of the titles and stars added to the pages I used glue dots in the four corners to adhere them to the back of the glass.

This project came out better than I had visioned it in my head. I just love it.

It looks a little plain above the couch by itself so I will be adding some black vinyl text around it soon. I still love it and am very happy with it.
