DIY DIY window valance

Today I am sharing a quick and easy project (my favorite kind) with you. When we were working on the bedrooms at Ellery and Third- our Airbnb, I was looking for a way to add visual interest on a budget. So I decided on a DIY Window Valance.

DIY Window Valance

I had planned for bamboo window blinds for privacy and wanted something other than sheer white curtains for the windows as I have done before. When I discovered the little lightbulb-shaped vases from a Floral Christmas Tree project I did a few years ago, I knew what I wanted to do.

Window Valance with Fresh Flowers

What I used:

  • Metal pipe- That was threaded for me at Home Depot.
  • Flanges- Two
  • 3/4 Elbows- Two
  • Black Spray paint- I used this Rustoleum in Matte Black
  • glass vases- here
  • Leather strips-
  • Twine
  • Flowers and plant cuttings!
Piping at Home Depot

Putting it together:

We had the pipe cut to the window size at our neighborhood Home Depot. They also threaded the ends for us and all for free!

Window Flange

Once we got home, I painted the pipe, flanges, and elbows with black spray paint. The pipe comes with all kinds of writing and markings you want to cover up.

Then we assembled the pieces.

The next step was to attach it to the wall. If you could see my husband’s expression, you could see how much he LOVES these “quick DIY projects.”

I then arranged flowers into the little vases, which I had already wrapped the tops of with twine from a previous project.

The twine was not long enough, and I wanted to hang these at different heights, so I used leather strips to make them longer.

I trimmed the leather where I tied it, so it wasn’t so messy.

Fresh cut flowers as a Window Valance

I have to say I LOVE the roses with Ivy.

Once the blinds arrived and we hung them, I think I loved the DIY window valance even more!

The water filled vases are very pretty in the sunlight and bounce light around the room.

The fresh flowers were lovely and made my heart happy but are a bit impractical for a short-term rental property.

So I decided to change it up a bit and turn it into something more sustainable.

A propagation station!

I added leaf cuttings and am using it as a propagation station.

I change the water while they are hanging and add to it once every few weeks.

It makes my plant-loving heart happy.

So that’s it for my DIY window valance.

I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Until next time,

-Libbie

Clever! I think I would use S-hooks on the pipe and hang from there just to make removal efficient.

And you never will, I’m sure! 😁

I love it and would do this in the kitchen dining or living.....but...I know others thought this too.....could this be a liability in a rental if they fall or someone jumps up and it breaks?

I am so doing this in my kitchen!!! Beautiful.
