Clean washboard and bucket. Spray bucket with white enamel paint. Three coats of white or until completely covered. Stain washboard and glass with clear polyurethane making sure all surfaces are completely covered Let dry overnight. Pick out any color acrylics at you local craft store you will also need a matte finish clear spray. I chose aqua, lavender, white, yellow and green.
When bucket totally dry mix aqua paint with some water to make a wash. Take a large paint brush and apply aqua wash to bucket. To make sure your paint doesn't run take an old rag and lightly swipe bucket all the way around. Keep adding paint and swiping until you reach a desired effect. Let dry. Flower stencils can be purchased at your local craft store. I used these to create different types of flowers...pansies, etc.. Start with creating grass and foliage. Use stencils and go free hand too. Go completely around bucket you will need long tips paint brushed in various sizes 1 thru 10 if you wish. Next, stencil on flowers. To create lifelike flowers like pansies start with lavender petals, dry brush technique, ( wiping most of paint off of brush and gently apply paint to petal,(yellow or white or even both), you can add a different stenciled flower in yellow and dot on paint lavender paint to yellow petals. Just continue on until completely around bucket. Feel free to experiment with your colors. I mixed lavender and yellow together to make a darker green. I then dry brushed small patched into grassy areas. The canvas is there for you imagination to create.
When dry spray complete bucket with clear matte finish. This seals it from the weather.
Place 1 to 2 inches rocks in the bottom of your bucket for drainage. I used an old picture holder to prop up washboard and filled with a good potting soil that contained fertilizer. Take two decorative garden stakes, ( dragonfly and butterfly), and insert decoratively into dirt.
Plant any annuals that you wish and what a beautiful summer project! Enjoy year after year. This project can always be repainted for any décor. Enjoy!
