Like the example Lauren shows, the table has to have a sturdy base. If you like the width and the base is sturdy, just find the right cushions to adhere with double stick tape and you have your bench.
If the table needs to be cut down in length, width, or simple massiveness, be ready to do some carpentry. You may have to take the whole table apart first. If the frame and legs can be attached to the size tabletop you want, your solution may be to cut the tabletop to size, sand, stain and seal the cut edges, and reinstall the frame and legs. You may have the option to affix the cut table to a wall, inside or outside. And a cushion or two the right size will add the finishing touch.
