DIY Rustic Geometric Tray
Create a beautiful rustic wooden tray from leftover wood. First you need to roughly decide on the pattern you want on your tray and the size. You don't need all the pieces straight away, you can play around and cut them as you go. This way you can create a unique design. Follow these simple steps and re-create this rustic tray for your home.
Cut out a piece of ply larger than your tray and divide it in four equal squares, then mark it. This will allow you to easy create a pattern, remember what you do in one square you will recreate in the other three squares. Each piece will be cut 4 times for each square.
I used some leftover wood, which was roughly 4cm wide.
These are the three main shapes you will need, you can then mix and match them as you wish. All angles are cut at 45 degrees.
start assembling your pieces and glue them in place. Start from the centre and glue the pieces in all 4 squares in the exact way to recreate the pattern. Use brad nail gun to secure them in place.
continue with the pattern, remember you can change the pieces around if you are not 100% happy.
once all pieces are in place, measure the tray and mark it to cut off the edges.
using a jigsaw remove extra length and cut it square.
Tape and paint as you wish. I used dark grey for the accents, white paint and clear and dark wax.
create a frame around the tray and glue/nail it in place. Once dry I added some dark wax.

Beautiful work. I love this. Is there a way to keep the brads/nail heads from showing? Maybe some nail filler that will stain nicely?
Incredible work
