Here are some instructions on repotting a jade plant.

  • Jade plants are pretty hardy. If a piece breaks off, just plop it in a pot with fresh potting soil and you can start a new plant.

I say DO NOT transplant it at all ; it may go into shock; it doesn't need changed out/transplanted they are slow growing and do best when undisturbed and root bound;why do you feel it needs it? just give it some water soluble miracle grow 2x a year as part of regular watering schedule;if it's healthy leave it alone Example---The elderly man that runs the green house said this Jade was in the range of 60+ yrs,its alittle over 5 ft tall with a huge trunk, currently we have it outside in its original pot--ANOTHER I kept it in the same pot & I just repotted it last year for the first time in 10 years.ONE MORE Interesting how almost everyone who's posted has owned their jade for years! So have I. I've had it for over ten years. It was potbound in the same pot for years, did fine. OK ONE MORE I acquired two hardy jade plants in 1992. They were both in the same pot and both had trunk circumferences of 7-8"and now are 3 and 4' tall, about as wide or a little wider than they are tall. the taller one started blooming last week, and the other one has just begun. These plants are approx. 15-18 years old. Possible reason to transplant....if it is top heavy and tipping over because current pot is not heavy enuf. If so let me know I have plants in house over 30-40yrs old huge that I have transplanted I'll tell you easy way.
