Simple Seating Simple Bench Simple Boards
This is a second part to my metal wall. We have been redoing our laundry room slowly but Shirley. But of course winter is just a few months away so it was time to finish the metal wall. In my previous post I updated the wall with rustic metal and hung hooks now all I needed to do is build a simple bench. I used 4 -2 x4’s and two 1 x6’s to create my simple bench.
I measured and cut 12 legs at 20 inch long and 6 cross boards out of my 2x4’s. We are tall and wanted to be able to slip muck boots under bench in the winter so we went with 20 inches. You will need to measure for your comfort. I used clamps to hold together while I screwed them together. This is a long wall so the bench is 10 feet long. So 3 leg bases were needed for support.
Here I am showing you my cuts
After I cut all the boards put them together and painted them white I put them in place and realize that I needed to remove one of the side supports to get it in the corner of this wall.
We pre-drilled the holes for the heavy duty bolts because I did not want the bench to pull away from the wall. Here is how we Attached the center support.
I lightly sanded the 1x6’s not to get any splinters when sitting on our bench. I also used nutmeg stain for the seat boards to continue it through out laundry room. My boards were starting to warp so I needed to get them attached and flattened. This was fairly easy I just used drywall screws and screw them in. I touched up the holes underneath on the legs and repainted them so you couldn’t see where they were attached.
I did end up having to clamp boards down and add moisture underneath to bring boards back down.
I used a spray bottle and every time I walked by this area I would spray underneath the boards to bring them back down.
I love how it turned out very rustic like the bench with a super purpose. I hope you enjoy let me know if you have any questions
