DIY Sunflower Bird Feeder
A DIY Sunflower Bird Feeder is sure to welcome sunflower seed-loving birds to your yard. It's designed to not only hold yummies for the birds but to dress up your landscape with a bright and cheery sunflower too!
Here's how easy it is to make one - with inexpensive thrift pieces.
On one of my latest thrift shop visits, I came across this not-so-special metal plate.
I loved the gently scalloped edges and soft ridges along the rim. It kind of reminded me of the petals of a flower. Hmmm...
I was pretty sure I could do something with it, so it came home with me.
Next stop: a dig through my stash.
Somewhere along the way I found this lamp. I loved the shape and it was just sitting there waiting to be put to good use.
I wondered if I could pair the two pieces...
I gave it a quick and refreshing paint job,
then moved to the plate.
After a base coat of the same spray paint, I trimmed the edges with yellow craft paint.
Next, I stained on some orange using an old rag, just as you would with regular wood stain. I wanted to break the harsh and flat yellow finish and make it more closely resemble the coloration of a real flower.
I added some brown craft paint in the same way, and got what I was going for!
All I had left to do was glue them together!
I had a perfect place in the yard where we already have a lot of bird activity, and set it in place.
Filled and ready!
I love having a perfect view from my front window.
Now I can enjoy my project and watching the birds visit.
