Flowerpot Lantern and Tray Display
Walmart had these cool wood grain placemats, they reminded me of barnwood....you know that style that everyone sees and wants? Well I picked up one not knowing what I'd use it for?? The idea would come to me later....and it did, over time as most projects evolve as you go along.
I had to fit and cut the placemat to become the base liner for the blank, wooden tray seen above.
I bought a set of those trays in graduating sizes at the dollar store and decided the placemat would make the perfect bottom for one not only because of the beautiful wood grain but also because it would be removable to clean and replace back inside the tray.
The tray was painted in a matching color, just white chalk paint that I tinted with acrylic brown paint. Doesn't the grain on the placemat look real?
Next was to paint the terra cotta flower pots, the first plan involved using three pots but it got narrowed down to just one. The beige chalk paint mixture adhered great but required 2 coats for complete coverage.
I always buy white chalk paint so I can mix in a few drops of dark acrylics to give me a wide variety of color shades to choose from for my crafts.
Once the paint was dry, I filled the inside of the pot with floral foam thinking I was going to do a dried floral arrangement.
That plan changed after I found this chimney lamp shade that I was able to sit on top of the foam. I'd use a battery operated tealight as the light source to keep it safer and cleaner than a wax candle. The white tealight base also got a couple of layers of the beige paint I mixed up to camouflage it amongst the seashells better.
To hide the blank areas of foam peeking through I used small seashells, purchased from the Dollarstore. I finished off dressing the tray with decorative orbs, a monkey knot and a small driftwood piece.
Here it is viewed from another angle.
Here it is sitting on my antique cabinet, part beach style, part farmhouse style which is what I like! Create something to suit your style and your home will be full of unique items that no one else has! ❤
