How can I make over a bathroom medicine cabinet?
I have a very large, old, 1970, bathroom vanity mirror that has a wooden frame border that can not be removed. How can I cover it it make it more modern?

Hi Sharon,
I agree with Kelli that painting it would at least give it a different look. If it's truly wood, you MIGHT be able to sand off the design, but I'd be leary of doing that. The design might be plastic and then sanding could ruin the whole thing. You might check it closely to see if the design will come off. Usually those are added pieces. However since it's 50 is years old and it hasn't started to come off that's most likely iffy too. I don't know if this will help but here's an article about how someone removed a mirrored frame from the actual mirror. Maybe if you look close enough you'll find this might work. Wishing you the best.

Hi Sharon, I agree with Kelli, just paint it. Use a funky, unexpected color to make it more upbeat and to your liking. Trying to add texture or a fill-in type substance would be difficult to achieve and look professional. Here's some pics of suggestions.......

Ornate Mirror Gets an Updated Look
Is this mirror over a medicine cabinet? If so you can remove the whole enchilada. Then hang a mirror of your choice.
Maybe something like what we did? https://www.frugalfamilytimes.com/2012/08/our-frugal-bathroom-reno-updating-old.html?m=1
I agree. Paint it.
We all agree on the paint
If you want it smoother, I’d mask it, clean it with rubbing alcohol and spray it with primer, then when dry, fill it in with drywall sparkling.
Bondo would stick better but is more $ and more time intensive.
It can then be sanded.
I would not go for a perfectly smooth look, as that’s too time intensive.
Then prime & paint.
You could spray paint it with chalk paint, masking off the mirror first. This would be easier to get a an even finish in your paint.
