Anthropologie Inspired Retro Plate Holder

I inherited my grandmother's gorgeous set of Desert Rose Franciscan Ware. Unfortunately, the plates all have big chips, so they can't be used for dining. I had them in my china cabinet, along with a few of her vintage spoons. One day, while browsing the Anthropologie catalog, I knew exactly how to connect these treasures.
Anthropologie featured a plate stand that had two crossed spoons in the front. It was meant to have a vintage vibe, but I knew I could recreate this same look with actual vintage pieces from my grandmother's plates and spoons.
I absolutely love the star pattern on the spoons! I didn't know the name of the pattern, but after I posted this to my blog, a reader informed me that it is known as Mid-Century Atomic Star.
I took a plain plastic plate stand and gave it two coats of metallic Rustoleum spray paint. Then, I used hot glue to attach the spoons to the front of the stand.
This project cost me about $4 for the spray paint. I already had everything else, so this is a big saving when compared to the $20 original plate stand.
Now, I have a way to show off the spoons and the plate at the same time. One of the best parts about this project was having so many people tell me that their parents or grandparents had the same patterns. I just love making connections like that!

LeeAnn Gerleman on Oct 01, 2015Those spoons with the stars on them used to come in boxes of detergent. Remember when towels were in Tide detergent back in the '50s? The same thing happened about that time with the flatware with the stars on them. My Mom liked them because they were stainless and didn't need to be polished. so she eventually got the whole set. Her and a neighbor used to trade if somebody got too many spoons, or too much of other types.

Elaine Simmons on Oct 02, 2015LeeAnn, I remember that too! I had some of that silverware, as a matter of fact. I don't remember getting them from detergent but I do remember getting the towels and washclothss from them only I think mine came from Breeze detergent.
