Family Tree with names and birthdays displayed on individual leaves.

I needed a Christmas gift for that hard to buy for person who has everything. ( Sound familiar?)

I wanted the gift to be personal and sentimental. So I decided on a family tree.

Some of the supplies needed are the tree, wooden leaves, wooden heart, paints, brushes, and gold paint pen.

Of course other colors could be used and the leaves could be made of various materials such as felt, maybe leather or faux leather, etc.

First I painted the leaves a green color on both sides. I chose a different green according to the generation they were (child, grandchild, great grandchild etc). Left them to dry for about an hour or so in between coats.

The second step was to color the edges of the leaves. I used a gold paint pen to make the green of the leaves pop.

The third step was a little time consuming because I went old school and used carbon paper. ( I wish I had some better equipment!)

I printed out the size and font of the letters I wanted to use, put carbon paper over wood shape and just traced over the letters and numbers.

One side of the leaf featured a name.

The second side featured that person's birthday. Then I strung my leaves with gold string. This string was the kind used for hanging Christmas ornaments.

The final step was the heart that featured the couple that started our family. I used the same steps as on the leaves, except their anniversary date was used instead of a birthday.

Then I attached the heart to the tree with E6000.
