You can stencil, do a gel stain design or free hand paint a center or perimeter design then finish. Check out Unicorn Spit. It looks fun and has an amazing selection of colors. I am going to give it a try this summer myself.

You could paint, stain or stencil it. Paint just the legs and leave the top untouched or vise versa. Distress, antique or whitewash it.

Staining it would be beautiful! You can also use a wood graining tool! That would add interest and yet keep the wood look.
