This is the method I used when I painted my bathoom countertop and it turned out even better then I had hoped. Only real difference was that my sink is an enamel drop in and the one in the picture is one continuous piece.

Use a Giani counter top kit. Come and see what we did with an old lime green counter top from the 70's. Worked great and really held up to kitchen use too.
