I found this article. Perhaps it will help you. I've never dyed anything on that scale. Good luck. If it works, post and let us know.
Hello we rented a carpet kicker one time to help re-stretching an area the carpet — we found it was more difficult than one might expect. Watching some YouTube’s might be helpful to you evaluate if it’s a project you really wish to undertake. Sometimes involving professionals may yield the best results.
This is one thing we'd never do ourselves! It's really tricky. It's not that expensive to have it installed and is worth it.
Wall to wall carpet is a job for pros, if you want stretched carpet over pad.
it requires a lot of strength to manhandle the huge piece of carpet, after you cut it approximately to length.
The knee kicker is also a physical work out, as well as technical.
Direct glue & staples are something you could do, with some planning. Some direct glue carpets come with pad attached to the back.

Hi Maryjo: I'd get someone to do this. You can do it yourself, but you will need to get one of those tools that sort of dig into the edge of the carpet and you kick it with your knee to stretch the carpeting and attach it to the tack strip. It's really hard on the knees, especially if you don't have the right tools and strength to do it. Sometimes, they have these tools that ratchet the carpet to the wall, but I don't know if you can rent one. I'd really get someone to do it for me if I were you. Good luck
