How can I make my fireplace look bigger?
I have a gas fireplace. It’s solid wood; mahogany. It’s 3 feet 8 inches tall and 4 ft. long. I just think it would look so much better if it was taller.

I also live in a very small space -- 448 sq ft -- and have found that light colors and multi-purpose items (like my side table is my hamper) make it some larger.
I always love the spruce for their great round ups and advice, hope they help! https://www.thespruce.com/make-a-small-room-look-bigger-1976069
What a great idea! Keeping your colours light will help and like Nan suggests, use multi purpose items. Are you going to put a large deck right outside? That would help a lot too.
Light colors make a small space look larger. Mirrors can also help the space look bigger than it actually is.
large mirrors!
I've always lived in tiny cottages. I've relied on large mirrors, light colored walls and simplified decor. The less stuff you have around the larger the space will feel. Also, I do like color, so I add a pop with one brightly painted wall or a very fun window valance. I also avoid heavy drapes on the windows. Sounds like an awesome place. Best of luck!!
While I have always believed that light colored walls make a space look larger, I have been watching a British decorating show and they say dark colors can make a room look "elongated" and that a darker statement wall can make a room look larger. My husband says that's crazy but I thought I would pass it along.
Lights, mirrors, and bright colors will help to make a space feel larger.
Are you able to add a skylight
White walls normally make it look/feel larger.
I would paint it bright and light colors
Light colors and lots of mirrors, large and small. Let me know how you like it. I am considering a shipping container home for a weekend get away, provided the local zoning board approves.
That sounds so cool! Maybe these ideas will help: https://www.pinterest.com/akkirsch87/shipping-container-ideas/
