Can I stain stone on a garden wall?
I had a new low garden wall installed with stone that I believe is actually molded concrete. This new wall (grayish white) doesn’t match the other brown stone I had done a few years earlier. Can I stain or somehow darken the stone? Thanks!

Hi! There are concrete stains you could try. They are available at most building suppliers and online.
I would contact the company that installed/manufactured the wall to find out what the material is and ask them the best way to darken the stone.
A 50/50 mix of latex paint and water should work. Similar to whitewashing brick
Here is a very good article on how to match new concrete with old:

You can buy mason' concrete stain to color, Amazon carries it and so do most big box stores like Lowes and Home Depot. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=mason%27s+select+concrete+stain&crid=2CT5NOA2RZEHE&sprefix=mason+concrete+stain%2Caps%2C289&ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_20
I have had a similar problem and did basically what William suggested but I started with a 10% solution of a brick colored latex paint. Use a cheap brush and give your wall a light coat and see how it looks. Can repeat this as much as you like until the wall has the tone you like.
you might try some on stone of the original wall. You might be able to blend the colors. Remember that you are not painting the wall but just slightly altering the color.
Because you are not actually using this wash for protection you can use the cheapest paint you can find. I have also used oil paint diluted with paint thinner to make some concrete pots have a more pleasing look.
They also have spray paint comes in natural colors with a bit of texture that might work. You can find it them at Home Depot.
You can buy paint specifically for concrete at the hardware store.
If your 2 walls are next to each other, the blending may be more difficult, if spaced apart, the slight contrast might be undetectable. Start with cleaning your new wall very well and let it dry, then as William said, using a diluted brick color ( or the closest color match) to the older wall you can. The dilution might work at approximately a 10%, meaning 1 part paint to 9 parts water or as high as equal parts of paint and water. You will have to experiment to see what works. Try this in a fairly inconspicuous area of the new wall.
Best to you.
Hi Vic, yes....Anita is right! Paint for concrete would be perfect. You will want good concrete paint though. Check out my post:

Even though we painted a concrete patio, this post will tell you what paint we used and how to use it. Good luck!
Hi Vic, you can stain concrete in various colors. Here's a great article with homemade stain recipes you can try - https://www.concretedecor.net/decorativeconcretearticles/vol-10-no-4-mayjune-2010/decorative-concrete-recipes-2010/
You can paint the stones with Mason Paint. This paint I have used on my concrete patio and it worked great https://amzn.to/3d8dhBi
Absolutely. Make sure you get masonry stain. It should be available at hardware and big box stores as well as online. My brother in law was a stone mason and he used to stain the mortar on jobs where it was originally white but new homeowners wanted grey or brown.
Paint it with a concert paint so it covers well in the color you want to match.
You can stain it, or even paint it. Here is a product that will allow you to do that. You might have to blend colors to get a match to what you already have https://www.homedepot.com/b/Paint-Exterior-Stain-Sealers-Concrete-Stain/Concrete-Brick-Masonry-Stone/N-5yc1vZcg1sZ1z0o7h6
Ask the installer!!!!!!!
stain or paint ; as long as it is not previously sealed stain needs to soak into stone and then sealed after
