What you use is really up to you. I like to take out a bunch of different materials, just in case I want to use any of them. You know what they say, out of sight, out of mind. If I don’t remember that I have certain items, then I surely won’t use them! You can really let your creativity guide you here. I wanted something more rustic so I stuck to neutral colors, but you can match your decor to whatever suits you.
I placed the frame over my chicken wire and cut to size. Be careful here as the wire can be quite sharp when you cut it. Then I flipped the frame over and stapled the wire along the back of the frame. You need quite a strong stapler for this as you’re stapling into wood.
I wanted to hang the W in the frame, but felt it needed something more before I inserted it. In keeping with the farmhouse vibe I decided to wrap it in burlap. I glued the burlap to the front of the letter and left it to dry while I decorated my frame.
I have a plethora of faux flowers and greenery and this project is the perfect chance for them to shine. Even better, I got quite a few of these flowers from the reject shop for around $5. Beautiful and cost effective! Using a hot glue gun, I glued flowers along the corners of the frame. I didn’t really have an exact plan for this part of my project, I just kind of placed and glued them as I saw fit and played with it as I went. I also added a few sprigs of greenery here and there to break up the pink. Then I inserted a few wheat stems here and there to make it feel more rustic.
Once the glue was dry I cut off the excess burlap. I also decided to paint the edges white and dry brush the front of the W a bit to make it look weathered. I also wrapped a bit of hemp around the tops for added effect.
Originally I had thought that I wanted to hang the letter in the frame, but as I played around with it I realized that I didn’t love how it looked hanging down from the frame. In the end I used a bit of hemp string to tie it to the chicken wire.
I love how this project turned out! It was quick, easy, and mostly used materials that I already had on hand. It’s an easy project to customize to your home and aesthetic, and really has that wow factor to impress your guests.
