How to cut a kitchen table to size.?
I received a kitchen table (butcher style top) that is 10 inches too long. Is there some way of cutting it down to size?

I believe that would depend on the leg or base placement. If you can cut 5 inches off on each size that would be the best bet. However, the legs would have to be inset enough for you to do it.
Do you have a picture? Is it a pedestal base or 4 legs. If a pedestal, all you'll have to do is remove top and have it cut down. If it is on legs you'll have to remove top and rebuild the leg frame to the desired size.
Table saw
If it's four legs then it must have an apron the legs attach to. You can remove two legs and cut the 10" off one end. but you would need to rebuild the apron to reattach the legs.
What style legs does the table have, and how are they attached to the underside of the top?
What material is the top made out of? for example, solid wood, laminate.
Posting a picture would help illustrate what you are starting with.

Assuming you can shorten the top without affecting the base: Remove top, lay out blue painter's tape at your cut location(s), and use a circular saw with a finishing blade (not framing teeth), clamp a straight edge to the table and cut. I would probably cut 5" off each end so the original base mounting location can be re-used. You will want to sand the ends and slightly round over the cut line so it's nor sharp. Add protective sealer (poly) to the cuts.
A photo would help. It depends on what base you have and if removing a portion of the top will cause problems for the base.
You could use a circular saw with a straight edge.

A circular or table saw will do the trick. Make sure you take into consideration the table base/legs and how chairs are set under it, or a full table of people and dishes.
Hello Tony,
You could take a section from the middle of the table and then bolt the two ends together from underneath to secure.
